The purpose of the Aldershot Business Improvement Area (BIA) is to oversee the improvement, beautification and maintenance of municipally-owned land, buildings and structures in the area beyond that provided by the municipality and to promote the area as a business and shopping area.
The Aldershot BIA provides enhancements in the business area to create a more pleasant atmosphere for local businesses and neighbouring residential areas. This is accomplished through streetscape improvements such as lighting, signage, street furniture, planters, banners and sidewalk treatments as well as seasonal decorations. Revitalization and Maintenance:
The Aldershot BIA helps to revitalize, improve and maintain physical infrastructure as well as aiding in making the area cleaner and safer. This includes an annual spring clean-up, enhanced street cleaning and garbage receptacles.
Marketing and Promotion:
The Aldershot BIA works to retain and expand its customer base by encouraging both local residents and others to shop and use services within our local commercial district through marketing and promotional activities such as the Shop Local promotion each November.
The Aldershot BIA works with community partners to hold special events to promote and showcase our businesses. This includes the annual Jane’s Walk in May and the Christmas Tree of Hope in November.
The Aldershot BIA works with commercial property owners to help ensure that available space is occupied, and that an optimum business and service mix is achieved and maintained. There is 40,000 square feet of commercial space becoming available in 2014 and 20,000 square feet in 2015.
The Aldershot BIA acts as a voice for the business community and has established important relationships with other community voices such as Burlington City Council, municipal departments, local community groups (schools, churches, citizen groups) and institutions (chamber of commerce, service organizations). The Aldershot BIA Website, Aldershot BIA Newsletter and Partnering Aldershot, along with the local City Councilor’s website provide a forum to convey community concerns to council and help prompt council to pursue policies and activities to promote and strengthen the community and its unique identity.
